Event Operations
A position in event operations requires an understanding of project management functions and may require the skills to run an event, understand and manage marketing, conduct sales and provide exceptional customer service. It may also require the skills to develop print and e-mail marketing materials, to create and update floor plans, maintain the trade show portion of a website, negotiate and manage vendor contracts and much more. This could be a one-person job — or the details could be distributed among several individuals within a department. As a result, there is much to learn about event operations which will be discussed in this course.
Facilities and Site Selection
Strategic planning for an event is imperative to ensure a successful exhibition. This includes selection of the event site to meet or exceed the needs of the proposed exhibition. Making the right decision in site selection requires gathering and analyzing a large amount of input from all stakeholders.
Some exhibition organizers may choose to search for the facilities that match an event's most critical criteria first and others may choose to search for locations most advantageous to an event, followed by an examination of facilities. The selected process is based on many factors. In this module, we will address site selection and the evaluation of facilities.
Finance, Budgeting, and Contracts
Learn the tools necessary to create a budget and accurately project and monitor income and expenses, track cash flow and cost controls, and ultimately measure the success of an event and organization's return on investment. Contract basics for exhibitions and events will also be discussed and circumstances where contracts are important for exhibitors, facilities and vendors can easily be identified.
